About Anthony
Anthony is a registered psychologist with 20 years of practice experience. He has spent the majority of that time working as a Guidance Counsellor within Brisbane Catholic Education and working extensively and collaboratively with young people, their families, and school staff. Anthony has worked in a range of school settings, including primary, secondary, and P-12 schools. Most recently he spent 14 years in the Guidance Counsellor role at a P-12 school on the Sunshine Coast. Anthony has worked with hundreds of young people (of all ages) who have struggled with their education, their socialisation, their mental health, or with challenges associated with neurodivergence (e.g., ADHD, Autism). Under any conditions, Anthony always strives to find a positive and personalised way forward for his clients. Anthony has a strong passion for working with young people and finding ways to help them achieve their potential. He understands that we all face our own unique challenges and is committed to helping young people manage their difficulties and work to overcome their struggles.
Anthony is calm and thoughtful and offers a quality, professional service. He utilises a range of evidence-based, research-supported approaches and frameworks when working with young people. Most specifically, Anthony takes a client-centred approach with his clients. Anthony focuses on the development of rapport with, the building of an empathic understanding of, and the provision of unconditional positive regard for the client. This provides the client the best opportunity to feel comfortable, respected, and understood. Anthony believes that the quality and strength of the alliance between himself and the client is central to the success of the service being provided. As such he places significant emphasis on making each session a positive, relaxed, and engaging experience for the client.
Anthony’s current practice is focussed on psychoeducational assessment with young people, for the purpose of investigating concerns around their learning. Through assessment he aims to explore the young person’s personal capabilities, evaluate the impacts of those capabilities for the young person, and identify supports for the young person if needed. Anthony has a wealth of experience with psychoeducational assessment built up from his time working in schools. He has undertaken assessments with students of all ages and collaborated with the parents and teachers of students in order to find ways to help. His assessment reports are comprehensive and provide practical, personalised recommendations for learning and educational support. Working in schools, Anthony has also been responsible for writing and implementing learning support plans, incorporating access arrangements and reasonable adjustments (AARA) for students, and reviewing these over time in order to continue to best meet the needs of students. In short, Anthony is well versed in psychoeducational assessment and post-assessment intervention.
